The Whatnot Shipping Tool: What Comes With Your Seller Account, and What Backstage Adds
Whatnot's shipping tool is the Shipments page in Seller Hub: bulk labels and packing slips on whatnot.com, bundling, the in-app drop-off scanner, and the USPS SCAN Form. Outside a small beta, what it doesn't do is sort your table while you sell. Backstage adds that part: a bin for every buyer, a label that prints as the item sells on the Plus plan, and a packing manifest sorted by bin. From Whatnot's help center as of October 2, 2026.
Whatnot’s shipping tool is the Shipments page in Seller Hub, and it comes with your seller account. It makes the labels, the packing slips and the bundles, and it tracks packages when the carrier provides tracking. Outside a small beta, what it doesn’t do is sort the pile on your table while you’re still selling. Backstage does that part during your show, so by the time you open the Shipments page, everything is already in a bin with the buyer’s name on it.
Here’s what each one does, so you know which tool to reach for. Whatnot’s features are from its help center as of October 2, 2026.
What Whatnot’s shipping tool does
Labels and packing slips. On whatnot.com, open the Shipments page in Seller Hub, filter to Needs Label or to a show, and select the shipments or click Select All. Choose Generate Labels under Shipping Actions, then, with the same shipments selected, Export Shipping Label / Slips. The app does one shipment at a time. Labels come at 4 by 6 for a thermal printer or 8.5 by 11 for a regular printer, and packing slips print at the same size.
Who pays for the label. Buyers pay shipping at checkout by default, so in most cases the label is already paid for. You may cover some or all of it when you offer free or discounted shipping, run a giveaway, or make a shipping adjustment that costs more than the original label and isn’t covered by one of your free ones.
Bundling. Whatnot groups a buyer’s purchases into one shipment in most cases. If it got one wrong, you can bundle before you generate labels, or unbundle any time before the package is in transit, on whatnot.com. Both count as shipping adjustments, and unbundling can cost money if the new labels cost more. Outside the US, in Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands and the UK, Weekly Bundling can also group a buyer’s purchases across the week, if both of you turn it on.
Fixing a shipment before it ships. Check the weight and size of each shipment against the packed box, and change it with the pencil icon if it’s off. That change is itself a shipping adjustment: sellers get five free ones a week; for US sellers some changes are always free, and others cost money. If the corrected label costs less, Whatnot doesn’t refund the difference. The way to need fewer adjustments is accurate shipping profiles before you sell.
Confirming drop-off. Three options:
- The in-app scanner, in the Whatnot app: Seller Hub, the menu, Sales, Fulfillment, Ready to Ship, Confirm Drop-Off. Scan each package just before hand-off. It takes about two seconds a package on average, emails the buyer a photo, and counts toward your ship time even if the carrier’s scan is late. It works with every carrier, including plain-envelope First-Class Mail letters.
- The USPS SCAN Form, one barcode for a show’s USPS packages. US domestic USPS only, one show per form, made the same day as the labels, and it can only be generated once.
- The Whatnot Manifest, one QR code to mark a large batch as shipped. Whatnot says it’s in limited release to a small number of sellers.
The deadline. Ship within two business days of the sale. An order counts as shipped when it gets a drop-off scan, not when the label is made.
What it leaves to you
The Shipments page knows who bought what. Your table doesn’t. During a show, items pile up and you’re matching them to orders by memory, by the numbers you called out live, or by going back through video receipts, which Whatnot keeps for 60 days.
Whatnot is testing a fix of its own: Sorting Labels, in beta for selected pilot sellers. They print the listing title and the buyer’s username as items sell, and they need a computer running Whatnot Tray during the show. For everyone else, that gap between the pile and the Shipments page is the slow part of shipping, and it’s where the wrong item goes in the wrong box.
What Backstage adds
Backstage closes that gap during the show:
- Every sale by name, the second it happens, with the item and the price, plus a photo from the stream on most sales once you turn on sale screenshots.
- A bin for every buyer, assigned on their first win and kept all show. A first-time buyer gets a star.
- A bin label that prints as the item sells, on the Plus plan with a label printer, so nothing gets hand-written.
- Pending payments flagged, so a sale waiting on a card doesn’t get packed early.
- A packing manifest at End Show, with every buyer, bin and item, sorted by bin in pull order.
Then you open the Shipments page, print the labels in one batch, and pack bin by bin. Sort the manifest by buyer name and it lines up with the Shipments page, buyer by buyer.
It runs in Chrome next to your show, or as a native app on the iPad with no computer at all.
